Today I decided to see what is new in the world of urban planning and came across this article.
Top Trends in Urban Planning You Need to Know in [2025]
According to this article, around 68% of the global population could live in urban areas by the year 2050. I did some research on what percentage of our current population lives in cities – and it is lower, just under 55 percent. So this would tell you city planning is a priority.
Technolgy is key in urban planning right now – the use of GIS mapping, digital twins, and AI simulations – these are used to create responsive cities. Digital modeling helps planners simulate things like climate risks, traffic patterns, and population growth. Therefore this is a big rise in data driven design.
To prepare for the future and capitalize on the technology of today i learned the focus should be on – sustainability, smart city design, mixed use development, affordable housing, resilient design, community engagement, adaptive reuse, and equity and inclusion.
I continue to be fascinated with technology and how it aids in efficiency and speed!
